Pastor Bob Helton

Education:  Pastor Bob graduated from Mount Tabor High School, Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1970. In 1974, he graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College, Hickory, NC with a degree in Religious Studies. From there, he attended seminary, received his Masters of Divinity from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary and was ordained on June 10, 1979 by the North Carolina Synod.

Ministry:  From 1979-1982, he was called to be Pastor at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Kinston, North Carolina. From 1982-2002 he served under special call from the ELCA as an Army Chaplain. He joined the pastoral staff at Good Shepherd in August of 2002.

Areas of Ministry:  At Good Shepherd, Pastor Bob oversees several areas of ministry including Worship and Music, Outreach, Social Ministry, Fellowship and Special ministry.

Core Convictions:  I believe that God alone is the giver, and sustainer of life. We are here by the gracious prerogative of the living God. Forgiveness and restoration as members in the kingdom of God are the two most precious gifts we have. Learning to live as forgiven and restored members in community and inviting others to share in that life are our greatest missions. This also gives us our greatest joy. Our cross-oriented theology speaks to the frustrations, and daily struggle we face in this world and offers us hope. Our hope is centered in the God of all life. Each and every one of us has a call to live out and proclaim that which we have come to believe, namely that we enjoy abundant, eternal life in Jesus Christ.

Mr. Andrew More
Family:  Andrew, and his wife, Diana Livingston More, were married here at Good Shepherd on November 8, 2003. Andrew has one son, Zachary. Andrew's parents and his sister all live in Florida, which is where he is from originally.

Education:  Andrew graduated from Melbourne High School in Melbourne, Florida in 1983. He attended Florida State University from 1983-1988, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Asian Studies/ Political Science as well as a Masters degree in Social Work. Andrew worked as a social worker with at-risk youth and their families for twelve years. In 2000, Andrew enrolled at Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, and in May, 2002, Andrew received his Masters of Arts in Religion degree.

Core Conviction:  I believe that as Christians, we are called to be faithful followers of the cross of Jesus Christ. I believe that a key part of this call is to the ongoing formation and nurturing of our Christian identity through Christian education. We are called to be always growing in our faith, every day, throughout our entire lives. I believe that we are all fellow members of the body of Christ, working together as a Christian community to worship, praise and serve God, and to reach out to the world around us. I believe in the central authority and inspiration of Holy Scripture as the absolute foundation of our faith, which guides everything we do. I believe that, although we live in a world that so often highly values superficial success, power, and fame, we are called instead to be faithful disciples and to boldly proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our ministry and mission is to spreading the Good News of what God has done, what God is doing in the midst of our world today, and what God has promised to continue to do.
